What’s Hot at the Beach Besides the Sun
It is already May, which means it is almost Memorial Day and that means it’s almost time to put on our swimsuits and celebrate the beginning of summer! We’ve got you covered for those endless rooftop pool parties with the best trends in swimwear this year.
Sporty
Athletic-wear inspired pieces have been cropping up in unexpected places all year: on red carpet runways, in work attire and now as beachwear. You might ditch the running shoes on vacation, but go for a functional athletic swimsuit if you plan to do more strenuous activities than lounging by the pool.
Ruffles
Ruffles on swimsuits are generally seen in the children’s section, but not this year! Lanvin, Stella McCartney and even H&M have jumped on the girly trend. When strategically placed, ruffles are excellent for either hiding or enhancing certain body parts. This H&M swimsuit is fantastic at only $24.95.
Retro
Longline bikini tops and high-waisted bottoms are back in a big way. Longline tops give extra support for larger busts and are a flattering alternative to your standard bikini top. Paired with high-waisted bottoms, the look is true retro glamour. Go for a print (like retro polka dots) or solid for a sleek look. You can find some great ones online at Topshop and ASOS.
Printed One-Piece
In keeping with the retro trend, one-piece suits are back in style. We’re seeing a lot of art-inspired and floral prints. This one by Peter Pillotto for Target is a steal at $34.99. Search ModCloth for a large selection of printed one-pieces and longline suits.
