Online Dating Sans the Stigma
Although online dating is a booming business, there is still some stigma attached to meeting the love of your life on the web. Reston-based web developer, Enoch Lee, has found the solution to those that would like to use online dating but continue to have the cute “how we met” story by launching We First Met.
Ditch the profile search
We First Met is a dating site with a twist. “Most dating websites only focus on profiles. You search through profiles and send messages. It feels unnatural; as if you are sorting through resumes,” said founder Enoch Lee in a press release. “We First Met gets singles talking without having to guess what to talk about. Users can meet other singles individually by posting date ideas, or in a group setting by organizing and joining events.” The site is based on a points system to incentivize people to organize events. The points are then used to send messages or RSVP for events. Points can also be put towards cash for helping put together events.
According to Lee, the personalization options and direct link to actually meeting people is what makes the website stand out. Users can choose dating groups through options such as age, gender and interests.
Conversation starters
Another feature that is new to the online dating sites is the ability to start a conversation naturally. A user can broadcast a conversation starter to all members and begin talking to members without diving into profiles and sending direct messages, although direct messaging is an available feature. With We First Met, direct messages are filtered through and users receive only messages from those that are suited to a user’s taste.
Cut the clutter
Along with the dual match search where users can look for those that are looking for them, We First Met looks to cut down on the clutter of messages from potentially unsuitable partners. “We built We First Met to improve every aspect of online dating and to help singles enjoy a higher rate of success,” said Lee. “A lot of other dating sites show you information that doesn’t necessarily translate into getting more dates. For example, just because someone views your profile, it doesn’t mean they are actually interested. We First Met will not only show you who viewed your profile, but also how interested they were with your profile.”
For a limited time, the site is giving out 500 points for new users. For more information, visit WeFirstMet.com.
