St. Patrick’s Day Style Picks
Get out your best green attire, for the Feast of St. Patrick is arriving soon! The annual Irish holiday is usually celebrated with lots of drinking, festivals and parades going around here (D.C. folks, check out ShamrockFest). I’d recommend not taking your style too seriously on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a great day to go over-the-top in the name of a holiday, and remember not to wear something you’d be crushed to spill a Guinness on!
Want an upgrade from your “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” t-shirt? Urban Outfitters has the answer to that with The Mountain St. Patty’s Golden Retriever tee. They also offer an Irish bunny rabbit in a hat tee for $24.
If you’re going to invest in more than a t-shirt, make sure you’re getting your money’s worth with a green statement piece that will take you past Mar. 17. This Halston Heritage belted satin-crepe dress works for a more upscale St. Patrick’s Day affair.
For those attending a St. Patrick’s themed soiree, but too shy to wear head-to-toe green, a solid pair of emerald pumps will do the trick. Nine West has an affordable pair of versatile green leather peep-toe pumps that can easily take you into the spring and summer months.
Festival goers, ring in St. Patrick’s Day with Free People! I love the bohemian outdoor-festival spring vibe of these leather clogs. And they’ll be more comfortable than heels to walk around in.
And while we’re shopping green for spring, pick up a sweet cotton sleeveless dress like this one from Topshop. The embroidered bodice adds a special trendy touch to the seasonal staple.
For the retro-inspired fashionistas among us, go for Whistle and Wolf’s Daisy Print Jade Dress. You’ll stand out in a flattering dress with a Peter Pan collar, puffed sleeves and distinct flower pattern. Or go to your local vintage/thrift store if you’re pressed for time. Buffalo Exchange on 14th Street NW is a good one.
March 17 falls on a Monday this year, which means most of us (who don’t live in Ireland and get the day off) will be going to work! If you want to bring a little green into your office wardrobe, go for a nice emerald blazer from Acne Studios. This one is down from $520 to $159, a steal!
For those who aren’t big on the color green, sometimes all you need is a little accessory. Going to a parade? Keep the sun out of your eyes with these Warby Parker Quimby shades. They’re $95 non-prescription and $150 prescription.
If you really want to be festive, support an Irish designer! Shop the whimsical bags and clothing of Orla Kiely. Her emerald “love heart” vinyl bag ($318) is the perfect accessory for St. Patrick’s Day.
