MAC’s Fabulous New Fall Collection
Imagine you’re at decadent 1920s dinner party: the table is laden with extravagant food and libations, the lacquered lips and gilded eyelids of the women bespeak opulence beyond words, the champagne is flowing and everyone is getting just a little tipsy…
This, according to MAC cosmetics, is the inspiration for their latest collection, Indulge. As described in the company promotional literature: “fall color is a surreal feast for the senses, where no taste is too extravagant and no behavior beyond limits.”
I always look forward to MAC launches — there’s always something fabulous that I must have — but this collection makes choosing just one favorite item well-nigh impossible. Fortunately I was able to sample the collection at the Indulge launch at Pentagon City Mall last week amid a celebratory atmosphere that included a dashing young baritone belting out operatic favorites and models posing in a lavish tableau vivant.
As one would expect, the Indulge collection colors are richly-hued in gorgeous metallic textures and intense jewel tones. Some of MAC makeup artist Brandon Russell’s top picks: the eye shadow colors Sex and the Oyster (a grayish green) and Palace Pedigreed (a true aubergine) and lipstick color Sweet Succulence (a deep, sheer plum).
These eye shadows and the By Design lipstick look stunning on my fellow makeup maven Alyssa:
I also loved the Beluga eye shadow, a charcoal shade with a multidimensional pearl texture. I’m particularly enamored of MAC’s veluxe finish eye shadows, which are intensely pigmented powder shadows that feel like creams. They can be worn dry for a soft, sparkling finish, or wet, which transforms the finish to shiny and metallic.
MAC’s Indulge collection features five lipsticks ($15 each), five lipglass tints ($15 each), six nail lacquers ($16 each), three Fluidline eyeliners ($16 each), two blushes ($21 each), eight eye shadows ($15 each), one mascara ($21) and two brushes ($24 each).
