Doggie Treats

Yesterday, the Obamas announced a furry addition to their First Family with Sunny, a warmly dispositioned Portuguese Water Dog. The latest POTUS pooch at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. hails from Michigan and joins the senior White House canine Bo, assisting in official West Wing duties such as hole digging, fetch and looking fluffy. To honor Sunny, the Obamas have made a donation to the Washington Humane Society. DC on Heels would like to welcome Sunny to the District by giving some recommendations for dog friendly restaurants in the area in case she ever gets tired of scraps from White House Executive Chef Sam Kass‘ kitchen.

The Argonaut

H Street’s nautically themed staple, the Argonaut welcomes the four legged with their Mutts Happy Hour. Dog and owner can enjoy the Argonaut’s street level patio with doggie treats provided by Metro Mutts and Happy Hour specials ($1 off all rail beverages and draft beer) for all dog-bringers.

The Wonderland Ballroom

Columbia Heights’ quirky and beloved watering hole,
the Wonderland Ballroom
has a first rate outdoor patio enjoyed by D.C. scenesters and indie dogs alike. With happy hours everyday from 4-8 p.m., you can give yourself a little treat during Fido’s evening walk with a nip from Wonderland’s extensive craft brew menu.

Art and Soul

This carefully curated gourmet jazz joint features, along with locally sourced food, a pooch menu. While enjoying healthy Southern cooking on the patio, treat your pet to a frozen raw bone or the “Hungry Dawg,” a 6 ounce grilled steak and have him wash it down with Bowser Beer, the preferred non alcoholic beverage of dogs everywhere.

Give your best friend a bone with a doggy-human date at one of D.C.’s many dog-friendly restaurants. For more ideas check out these recommendations from Bringfido.com.
