High-Waisted

How to Pull Off This Season’s Biggest Trend

There were the low-rise hip huggers, the ’70s flare, the wide leg, the skinny jean. These trends cycle in and out of women’s wardrobes, and now we find ourselves in the age of high-waists. And, for me at least, wearing high-waisted pants is a fine line between me looking like I’m fashion forward or just rocking mommy jeans. So, how do you pull off this look?

First, you have to know your body. Second, you have to be willing to try something new. The high-waist is chic, elongating and figure-flattering. While high-waisted pants can be more forgiving than your typical low-rise skinny jean, different cuts and styles work with different body shapes and heights. High-waisted pants are not universally flattering. Because high-waisted pants work best with fitted, tucked-in tops, you can’t rely on a billowy shirt to cover up your flaws! You’re going to have to rock this look with your attitude, too!

I scoured the DC on Heels Pinterest boards for the best high-waisted looks to share with you. Here are the best in bikinis, pants, skirts and shorts:

Bikinis

I love the idea of a high-waisted bikini because it covers most women’s problem area: the tummy! You’re still able to show a little skin and look super cute, while covering up. For thin ladies without curves, the high-waist can create the illusion or accentuate what curves you do have. If you want to keep from calling attention to your hips in your suit, consider bikinis where the waist stops at flattering place on your body.

Pants

High-waisted jeans are great, but if you’re having trouble finding a pair to fit you well, try high-waisted pants of a different fabric and cut. There are high-waisted skinnies, but also high-waisted trousers that are looser, more forgiving and more comfortable! Also try out different colors to make your pants the center of your outfit.

Shorts and skirts

High-waisted pants can be  unflattering on a curvy-body because it draws attention to wide hips and thighs. A great way to get around this is by opting for a high-waisted skirt or shorts. High-waisted pencil and maxi skirts are an easy way to wear this trend while looking elegant and chic. The high-waisted skirts and shorts with a little bit of leg also makes your body look longer and leaner. Play around with different materials and prints! And try dressing it up and dressing it down. This look can be difficult to nail at first, but it’s actually very versatile and has that “wow” factor when worn right.

Do you have a favorite high-waisted look, or have you seen one on the street? We’d love to see them! Post them on our Facebook here, or tweet us your looks!
