Did your winter romance not quite last until Valentine’s Day? Thinking of going out as a recently single person on this (consumer ‘holi’-) day of love?
DON’T DO IT
When you’re sad and alone on Valentines going out by yourself is like spending hours on Facebook when you already hate your life. It’s like being hungry and scrolling through your Instagram pictures – or worse yet, watching the Food Network.
TERRIBLE IDEA
If you are feeling secure about your singledom, by all means go out, meet someone new, have a great time! This post is not for you. It’s for your friend who is sad and bitter and told you a dozen she doesn’t want to go out. So stop asking her.
I have my own list of things she can do.
Do things that will make you feel good about yourself so on Friday no one will know you were sad about staying all by yourself.
DO THIS INSTEAD…
Most people will tell you take the night pamper yourself. Yes, do that – the bubble bath, body scrub, get your nails done, buy yourself some rare expensive flowers that will make you smile every time you see them. Those are all wonderful to do, and you should do them for yourself more often.
AND THEN DO THIS…
But, I would also suggest you catch up on some work, revamp your resume, do some extra lunges, and eat a hearty salad. Do things that you’ve been wanting to do but were putting off. Do things that will make you feel good for more than a moment and have a lasting impact on you, at least for the next couple of days to get your through the post-Valentine’s Day love fest you don’t want to hear about. As cliché as it sounds, love yourself this weekend and spend some time on you.
IF YOU HAVE TO CRY…
That being said, sometimes you just need a good cry. If that’s you this Valentine’s Day I have a list for you too. If you don’t have your own I-need-to-cry-right-now Go-To’s for times like these try the following:
Movies:
P.S. I Love You
Bridget Jones Diary
The Breakup
Breakup Music:
Nora Jones’, …After the Fall
Duffy’s, Rockferry
A Fine Frenzy’s, Pines
The Magnetic Fields, I don’t want to get over you
After that…
After you get it all out, pick yourself up off your bedroom floor, throw your empty wine bottle away and go back to the part in this article about loving yourself.
