Show Your Spiritual Beauty in 2013
New Year people plan to reinvent themselves primarily from the outside in. This year, I challenge you to try reversing that plan.
Tis the season of giving and being thankful for what we have been afforded. So, in the spirit of giving I loaded up and drove down to the local homeless shelter. The next few hours opened my eyes and my heart. The people I had the pleasure of meeting while there left a lasting impression. The economy, elitists, and the busy city has taken the beautiful working class and made them beautiful people of the streets. I spoke with a few of the ladies there, still concerned about how they looked, and provided them some words of encouragement. No matter my words, they complimented me, thanked me, and gave me words of encouragement. It just goes to disprove the old adage; beauty is not just skin deep!
Beauty Is Not Just Skin Deep
The next day I returned to the shelter, this time armed with homemade noodles, buttered bread, pastries, and soft drinks. The smiles on the faces, the gracious statements, and the warmth that filled the air were truly a beautiful feeling that is hard to put into words. All this for only $50.00, that is fifty plates at $1.00 each.
Happiness and Smiles
Saturday, armed with sandwiches, chips, granola bar, and drinks, I returned. Welcomed as part of the family, the crew again livened up with thankful anticipation of the meal that arrived. I did this again for only around $45.00 for 50 bags, again, for less than $1.00 a bag. The best was being able to provide them two packs of $2.00 dominos from the dollar store. Opened and playing within minutes of delivery, happiness and smiles, a beautiful sight!
Don’t Forget About Others
Bottom line, we need not forget those beautiful beings on the streets as we buzz by in our warm cars. It only takes a second to provide some food, a beverage, or a couple of dollars they can use towards a hot coffee. Even more fulfilling is being an ear for them to share their amazing stories so that you too may grow and be inspired to do more. Remember, beauty is not only skin deep, it is in our hearts and minds; to share with those around us. I wish each of you a peaceful and happy 2013! God bless us all!
XOXO BESOS,
Happy New Year!
