Flavor your wardrobe with a dash of mustard.
When it comes to hot dogs, I hate mustard. When it comes to fashion, I love mustard. The hue, described as a “dark to moderate yellow” is in its prime right now. If you think of mustard as a drab color (like I once did), let me try to change your mind!
A tailored blazer is one great way to wear mustard. Keeping the piece modern and fitted is key! Think about it: would a mustard hoodie look fabulous on anyone? No way. My favorite buddy to mustard: animal print. The two really pop off each other in a glorious (still modern) way. I love the leopard print heels in the outfit above! Very chic.
Still not convinced? A mustard skirt is also a fantastic option. Paired with stripes and fur it stays playful and also kind of nautical. Black tights and t-strap heels are great for taking a skirt into fall and keeping your legs warm. I tried on a mustard skirt at LOFT a few months ago and surprised myself at how much I loved it.
Cardigans are great transitional items – from an office to the weekend and beyond. Paired with a relaxed striped shirt (or even chambray), a cozy scarf and your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans makes for the perfect pairing.
Still think mustard only works with food? Start small with a mustard scarf. If you like what you see and the compliments are rolling in (which they will), go for a sweater or bold pants.
Will you try the mustard trend for fall?
