DC Style Watch: Limited Budget? Spend it on Accessories.

Today is a big day ladies!  Today I tell you how you get a taste of FREE Stella & Dot jewelry.  However, there are instructions.  The first one is to read on.

According to the new Fall 2011 InStyle magazine makeover edition on newstands now, one of the 50 best fashion tips of all time is No. 39: “if you have a limited budget, spend it on accessories.”

Ladies, being a Stella & Dot jewelry stylist and a general accessories hog (jewelry, handbags, shoes, belts, etc.), Ilovethisadvice!

This is right in line with our last DC Style Watch post about the Little Black (Red or White) Dress where your stated mission was to “inventory your closet and see how you can mix up your LBD before your next event.  I bet you can make it look like an entirely new dress simply with your accessories.”  The folks at InStyle are speaking my language.

And they continue on with their 50 best fashion tips of all time. No. 2 is, “Accessorize in Brights.”

Revival, Gold Vintage Twist & Wishing Nugget bracelet (w/ a pop of color) featured in the April 2011 InStyle magazine

No. 16 is, “Layer your necklaces. Coco Chanel’s more-is-more approach still makes a statement today.”

Having a Diana Ross moment in the dressing room in my La Coco pearls, Audrey Necklace & 'fro (c'mon, you know you've done it too, lol).

Number 35 is, “Look for twists on classic pieces.  The right tweak can turn a staple into a statement.”

Stella & Dot "fringe" hoops featured as part of the Aug. People Style Watch 10 Best.

No. 37 is, “Add an element of surprise.  Whether it’s grosgrain with sequins . . . or an oversize choker with an easy white ‘T’, a touch of contrast makes good outfits great.”

Pageant queen Jasmin Newsome wearing the glittery Bamboleo Statement Necklace with a casual tank & cardigan. Well done!

No. 38 is, “Recast your jewelry.  Loop a chain through the clasp of a brooch . . . suddenly, it’s a necklace!  Wrap your chains or lariat around your wrist for a tough luxe bracelet.  Snap clip-on earrings onto flats for an instant evening shoe.”

Halle Berry's Adrienne Mixed Chain Lariat can be worn a variety of ways, including wrapped as a bracelet.

No. 42 is, “Jazz up your LBD” (Have these people been reading DC Style Watch or what??)  “Simpler shapes cry out for styling… Add a bold necklace.”

DC on Heels' own Markette working the LBD and the Metropolitan Mixed Chain Necklace

No. 43 is, “Get studs. Fake or real, big or small, they will go with any color, fabric, or style of cocktail dress and will never compete with other jewelry…”

Are you sensing a trend here?  And I didn’t even pay them for all of this sage advice!

Now, one way to both stretch your limited budget and use accessories this season is to get the accessories for FREE.  That’s where I come in.

The runways and red carpets have been full of the trend of layering bracelets.

Kelly Ripa (left) layering with the Serpent Bangle at the recent Super Sale fundraiser in The Hamptons.

Alicia Keys layers her bracelets on the red carpet.

It’s a trend that I enjoy and that Stella & Dot has down pat with our pieces.
