The One Who Got Away

Ever think back on your love life and reevaluate past relationships? Or maybe just pass someone you used to know and think, is that the one who got away? Regrets are not healthy, but we all have a few, and yes some can be past lovers.

Most people put this past behind them, but some actively seek to figure out whether or not this was the one who got away. So is this a good idea or a terrible disaster?

There is really no right or wrong answer. On one hand, you and your long lost love could reconnect and everything could turn out just as you dreamed. On the other hand, things can go terrible and not play out the way you hoped and planned.

Overall, you can’t predict what will happen if you walk down memory lane. However, if you go through with this, you can put this regret past you once and for all.

When confronting the past, follow these guidelines to move forward not backwards this time around:

Play it cool

If this is someone from your past, he or she most likely already knows you so there is no point in pretending. Be yourself and don’t be nervous. If there is no spark after all those years apart, don’t try to push it by being something you are not. Play it cool. If things get hot that is great, if not that is okay too.

High hopes, low expectations

Meeting up with someone from your past sounds exciting, but you need to prepare for anything. Things may go exactly how you plan, but they may also go in a complete opposite direction. Keep your hopes high, but also don’t get too ahead of yourself. If there is nothing there you can be honest and hope to still be friends one day — or not, let’s be honest.

Be open-minded

If you are revisiting someone from your past, you have to understand that they have had a life since you have been gone. They have probably grown up and changed a bit, which is totally normal. You have most likely changed a bit too, so don’t be too quick to judge if they aren’t the same exact person you once liked or dated years ago.

This whole reuniting effort is to see if someone from your past is the one that got away. If there is an undeniable chemistry still there, congrats on believing in second chances. But if there is nothing there at least you have closure and will be left without regrets.
