How To Get Snowflake-Inspired Nails

I was having dinner last week with my girlfriend at our local happy hour place. It is dark and cheery, so people don’t necessarily stand out. But, I looked to my left, and there was a woman sitting next to me at the bar holding a martini glass. I could not help but notice her sparkly wintery nails, which stood out against the dark backdrop and the people trying to squeeze themselves between us to get the bartender’s attention.

Her nails looked almost as if snowflakes had landed on them and left their imprint. I asked where she got her nails done. Surprisingly, she said she did her nails herself, but she had replicated what a manicurist had done for her at a salon the last time she was there. Her nails looked professionally manicured, and they had such a distinct look to them that one would have to be a professional to do that, I thought.

She said it was very easy to do and that all you needed were the right tools and nail colors. We exchanged emails, and she let me know step-by-step how she achieved her sparkly, winter nails look via email that same night.

What you will need:

  • A base coat
  • A top coat
  • A creamy white nail polish
  • A silver metallic nail polish
  • A glitter nail polish with chunky, glittery pieces
  • 2 wedge makeup sponges
  • Cotton swabs
  • Nail polish remover

Directions:

Apply a clear base coat to all your nails. Then paint the top third of your nails execpt on your ring finger with the creamy white nail polish. Where you left off from the white nail polish, create a speckled look of snow flakes that blends into the top of your nails. To achieve this look, add polish to the makeup wedge then softly dab the wedge on the part of your nail that does not have the solid white on it, making it appear as having a gradient effect.

On your ring finger, apply the metallic silver nail polish. You will need the second makeup wedge to apply the glitter nail polish. Then dab the wedge all over your nail to make sure the entire nail is covered in glitter.

The current nail trend is to have your ringer finger be an entire nail of a complimentary glitter shade to the rest of the nails. (Photo: Nailpolishartdiy)

You will want to add a top coat to all your nails to make sure your work lasts. You can use a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover to remove excess polish from the sides of your nails to make your look appear professionally done.

This snowflake inspired nail look is easy to do and is perfect to try during the festive, winter season.
