Keep Your Lips Glossy and Subtle

Have you ever dedicated a Sunday to running errands? Errands aren’t the most exciting thing in the world, so my beauty routine involves putting a BB sunscreen (a blemish balm) on my face and then applying lip balm to keep my lips moisturized. Apparently, this is not enough for my mother who thinks my lips should be perfectly glossed at all times and wonders when a lip product will come along that is subtle, yet has a maximum shine to it. Well, for those of you with over inquisitive mothers or who would just like to know how to spark up your lips on a regular errand day, these two Clarins products are just what you are looking for.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil keeps your lips very glossy, yet sits lightly on them. It is also light in color giving your lips a translucent look that emphasizes your natural lip color. Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Lipstick has more color, yet still manages to finish with a nice, natural looking, glossy sheen. Both products are great for casual outings or whenever you would like a more natural looking lip product. Both also taste like you are eating a medley of fruits, so you will become obsessed with wanting to reapply them.

The Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil is sticky and goes on as light or as heavy as you want. Since it is so glossy, just one application does the trick. It makes lips look plumper because of the intense shine that comes from the blend of soothing hazelnut and organic jojoba oils it includes. No lip liner is needed. The lip oil also tastes amazing, which makes it enjoyable to reapply. I’ve been using the Raspberry shade, and it shows up on my lips as a very faint purple meets pink. The great thing about the light color is that it looks like you have only applied a shiny balm to your naturally raspberry lips.

My lips remained glossy for a long time, but I reapply every 30 minutes or so. Reapplying doesn’t make the shine look caked on because it blends nicely into your lips when you rub them together; the sign of a great product! I’ve worn this on casual outings just to counterbalance a very light makeup routine.

The Joli Rouge Brilliant Lipstick goes on smooth and feels silky. I tried it in Fig, which is the darkest shade. It is a mid-brown nude. On the first application, although the color is dark in the tube, it still goes on as a very light shade of fig with lots of sheen. You can make the color darker by applying more of the lipstick, which is a nice option. The subtle amount of color in one application is exactly what I am looking for when I go on a casual outing versus a highly pigmented color for a night out on the town. This lipstick lasted up to 6 hours with no reapplication because of the soothing mango oil and moisturizing organic marsh samphire that is used in the product. My lips remained moisturized and, although it has a more balmy texture than a lipstick, the color also stayed on! Because it also tastes delicious, I wanted to continue to reapply it, but did not because the color builds up on reapplication, and I wanted it to remain subtle.

Be sure to have these two products in your purse this summer. You never know when you will want Clarins’ Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil for natural looking, glossy lips to spark some life into your lips when it’s a makeup-free day or Clarins Joli Rouge’s sparkly, shiny pout with a hint of color that you can pull off at the grocery store or whenever it is that you need casual looking lips.

As my mom always says, “there’s nothing wrong with making even your most casual of days just a bit more glamorous with the right products that work for you.”
