Christmas is finally here, which means endless holiday cheer! From holiday dinners to parties, there’s always a little guy you’ve got to be on the look out for, and its not an elf. It’s that sneaky mistletoe.

But why do we kiss under this particular plant? In reality, mistletoe is known as a parasitic plant that latches on to trees to feed off them. Yet during the holiday season, mistletoe is famous for being a symbol of romance. This love symbol stems all the way back to ancient Norse mythology. The tradition of stealing kisses under the mistletoe spread to England in the 18th Century. Tradition states that after kissing, the couple must pick a berry from the plant. Once all the berries are gone, couples are no longer allowed to kiss under the plant. But if you refuse to kiss your partner while berries are still in the mistletoe, you are in for a year of bad luck.

So be sure to pucker up this holiday season, for you don’t know when you’ll find yourself under this love plant. To ensure you are prepared at any point, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Carry peppermints:

Peppermint is not only festive, but it’ll keep your mouth minty all night. So whether you are walking around the corner to use the restroom or about to enter the kitchen to help grandma with dinner, pop a mint because you don’t know where the little mistletoe may be hiding.

Wear Chapstick:

You never know when or how many times you’ll find yourself under the mistletoe, so you wouldn’t want to leave a traceable lipstick mark. By using Chapstick, your lips will be smooth and luscious, and no one will know who and how many partners you run into under the mistletoe.

Wear comfy shoes:

Although it’s bad luck to not kiss under the mistletoe, there’s always a few exceptions. Let’s say you find yourself tricked under the mistletoe by your creepy secret admirer, you’re probably going to risk the bad luck and run for it. So wear some comfy, yet cute shoes in case you run into a kiss and dash.

Use a disposable camera:

Capturing a kiss can be picture perfect during this holiday season. So cleverly placing a disposable camera right by the mistletoe location can be a great party favor to give out once they are developed. So be selfie ready because you won’t know when it’ll be your turn to pucker up for the camera!
