Creating a Romantic Dining Space
Doesn’t it sometimes feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day? Life in the DMV can get pretty hectic and sometimes a girl just needs a break. Juggling a busy work schedule with a hot love life can be a challenge but it’s important to get our priorities right! Missing out on some good loving simply because we ran out of time is just not acceptable.
You’ve got to get organized to get the most out of the time spent with your partner. With the commute, kids’ homework and the gym all getting in the way, evenings can quickly fill up. It is important to set aside time for yourselves at home to touch base, relax and be reminded of why you’re so perfect together. To help things along, it’s a great idea to create a romantic dining space at home, somewhere you can retire to for intimate dinners for twosomes. If you want to put romance back on the menu, here are some ideas for creating the perfect place for a tasty tryst …
Where love goes
Identifying a special space in the home for romantic dinners is not as hard as you might think. Any alcove, balcony, terrace, spare room, even hallway or cupboard under the stairs, can be pressed into service. Once you have made your decision, measure the space available for a dining table and chairs. If the space is in an open area, consider using a semi-permanent screen, drapes or partitions to keep your mealtimes more secluded affairs. To relax completely, you need to feel comfortable so add extra cushions or consider an upholstered banquette to sit close to each other as you dine. In busy family homes, mark out your territory with some favorite framed photographs of yourselves on the wall.
The ambiance of amour
Get the mood just right with low-level lighting that casts flattering shadows. Yes, you want to be able to see the food on your plate, but keep the illuminations in check. A little soft candlelight ramps up the romance, but avoid tea lights on the table as they throw light upwards in an unflattering way. A twinkling overhead chandelier introduces glamour, while wall sconces diffuse a warm glow. Soft background music and a scented candle will underline the relaxed, laid-back feel you want to achieve.
The perfect setting
Preparing a table setting with great care and love is a very romantic gesture. A crisp, white linen tablecloth with napkins, fresh flowers and a bottle of your favorite wine will set the perfect tone and make your partner feel cherished. Alternatively, red, the color of passion really turns up the heat and, if used sparingly, it sends all the right messages. Sharing a delicious meal together is a sensual pleasure and one which you should take time over.
So, busy ladies of the DMV, you have been told: staying in is the new going out. On home ground, when great company, good food and the perfect setting combine, romance soon follows. So what are you waiting for?
