Arts Celebration Offers Gourmet Discounts

From July 10-27, Capital Fringe Festival will take over D.C. in a tour de force of live entertainment. Featuring work from the DMV’s most inventive, envelope pushing playwrights, dancers, comedy sketch groups and performance artists, Capital Fringe Fest will host hundreds of original shows at several local theaters, infusing the district with two weeks of up-and-coming and far-out performance spectacles.

Whether you enjoy a good drama or sultry burlesque, Capital Fringe Fest is sure to have at least two of every variety. I am looking forward to seeing skHikari Sushi and Saki Baretch comedy from the offensive and smart Brick Penguin as well as The Old Man Never Let It Go, a visual adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea.

In addition to feeding your need for artistic creativity, Fringe Fest is making sure that your stomach is sated before and after shows, as well. During the festival, owners of a Fringe Fest button, a necessary item to attend all Fringe Fest shows, are entitled to generous deals at quality restaurants. Eateries surrounding participating theaters will open their doors to Fringers granting exclusive discounts. For instance, Fringe folk attending a show at the Atlas Theater, located in the heart of H street, can choose from Granville Moore’s, Sticky Rice, H Street Country Club, Z Pizza, Liberty Tree, The Argonaut, Rock & Roll Hotel, & Pizza, Granville Moore, Sticky Rice, H Street Country Club, Z Pizza, Liberty Tree, The Argonaut, Rock & Roll Hotel, & Pizza, Hikari Sushi, Red Rocks Bistro, Saki Bar, Vendetta, Biergarten Hous, Red Rocks Bistro and Saki Bar, Vendetta and Biergarten Hous for 10 percent off or more.

Other participating restaurants include Nellie’s Sports Bar on U Street NW; Ping Pong Dim Sum, Hogo, The Green Turtle, Fado Irish Pub, Passenger, RFD and Zengo in Chinatown; The Red Derby in Columbia Heights; Dangerously Delicious Pies on H Street and in Chinatown; Capitol Lounge on Pennsylvania Avenue SE; Grassroots Gourmet on Rhode Island Avenue NW, Kushi on K Street NW and Mr. Yogato on 17th Street NW.

Be a patron of local arts and eats these next two weeks by checking out a Fringe Fest show and grabbing a post-show meal at any of these participating restaurants.
