This Weekend’s Fashion Events
I hope you rested up this week and saved those dollars, because this weekend is a busy one for fashion events! From runway shows to vintage pop-up shops, these are your can’t-miss weekend events.
Friday
Ever want to see DeAngelo Hall walk a runway? Glam up for Becky’s Fund “Walk this Way” fashion show fundraiser at the Embassy of Italy, 3000 Whitehaven St. NW, from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday. Rub elbows with Redskins and Ravens players, as notable professional athletes will be walking the runway in style! The theme this year is “The Language of Love” and will highlight Italian designers, athletes and businesses. This annual fashion event is for a great cause, with proceeds going to the charity’s domestic violence awareness programs.
Saturday
Spicy Candy DC and NeuProfile are holding the first ever “District Closets” shopping event at Mari Vanna, 1141 Connecticut Ave. NW. From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, shop the personal closets of D.C.’s top style bloggers, including Spicy Candy DC, The Fashionably Broke, Good Good Gorgeous, Mona Lavinia, A Loyal Love, High Fashion 4 Less, DC Goodwill Fashionista and A Very Busy Mama! Admission is free, but please RSVP here.
Also this Saturday, head to H Street for your vintage fix! I’m excited for the Connoisseurs Pop Up Shop and networking event sponsored by Instant Vintage 78! From 11 a.m.-4 p.m., shop for one-of-a-kind vintage clothing, jewelry, shoes and accessories from top vintage dealers in the area at Avery’s Bar and Lounge, 1370 H St. NE. Admission is free.
Remember that District Flea is still going on, with new vendors added every weekend. It’s open every Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. through Nov. 30, so try to make it there this month! Located at 945 Florida Ave. NW, it’s fun to head there after a U Street brunch.
Sunday
Nanette Lepore will be at Saks Fifth Avenue in Tysons Galeria, 2051 International Drive, Mclean, on Sunday to present her 2013/14 Winter Collection in a benefit fashion show! Maksim Chmerkovskiy from Dancing with the Stars and Finola Hughes from General Hospital are scheduled to be there. Doors open at 10 a.m. and there will be photo opportunities with celebrities after the show. General admission is $100 and benefits the nonprofit Childhelp, an organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect. After the show, 10 percent of purchases will be donated to Childhelp.
If you just want to get out of town this weekend, head to Richmond for a little fashion history. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ Hollywood Costume exhibit opens this weekend. See the original costumes worn by actors in the Wizard of Oz, The Birds, My Fair Lady, Superman, Titanic, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and more! Most are from private collections in California and have never been publicly displayed, until now. Tickets are free for VMFA members, children 6 and under and active-duty military personnel and their immediate families. Tickets cost $20 for adults, $16 for adult groups of
10 or more and seniors 65 and older, $10 for youth ages 7–17 and students with school ID and can be purchased here.
Now that should be enough to keep you busy this weekend!
