Fermentation without Representation
Even though our nation’s capital might not be the country’s center of micro brew like Portland, Ore., or Seattle, the D.C. area has been steadily accumulating a number of solid craft players in recent years. The stylized suds of DC Brau, Devils Backbone, Flying Dog and others have given D.C. some substantial hop cred, and its time to call attention to the fact with a celebration. And what better way to celebrate beer than with beer?!
A week of drink
DC Beer Week, a celebration of good beer in the national capital region, begins Aug. 11 and chugs on til Aug. 18. Restaurants, bars and breweries will have on tap deals, promotions and events that will make your cup overflow.
On Aug. 11, Beer Week’s opening ceremonies will be held at the Longview Gallery on Ninth Street NW near the Convention Center and will feature a cook-off with eight of the area’s top chefs competing for the title of Hop Chef using and pairing beers from Ommegang Brewery. Then it’s off to the races with beer happenings popping off throughout the week.
You’ve got local summer ale tasting with Gordon Biersch Penn Quarter location (Aug. 13), a coast-to-coast tap takeover at RFD in Chinatown featuring over 20 American craft beers (Aug. 14), a crab feast with DC Brau at Arlington’s Quarterdeck Restaurant(Aug 14), a Nats game with a pre-game tasting event of unlimited beer samples and a Shake Shack burger with fries (Aug. 15)…
I could go on for days. The full schedule is packed with beer fun. Check it out for yourself and be sure to crack one open next week in support of your local brew scene! Cheers.
