Best Buddies in the Kitchen
Last night, national non-profit Best Buddies teamed up with D.C. area chefs to host taste-fest Life is Sweet. Chefs were assisted by Buddy sous chefs in making gourmet morsels for guests who in turn were helping raise funds for the over 700,000 intellectually and developmentally disabled (IDD) individuals aided by Best Buddies.

Bayou Bakery served some N’awlins nom nom with their ice
cream stuffed cookies and biscuits with ham gravy. Chef David Guas is excited about the restaurant’s summer long crawfish broils now underway. Every weekend at Bayou, you can find steaming crawfish served with corn, potatoes and Louisiana’s own Abita beer — sounds pretty cray.

The Life is Sweet event put into practice the same kind of assistance Best Buddies provides IDD individuals: fostering one-to-one friendships and providing employment opportunities and leadership development. The chef and buddy sous chef duos worked together to put on a tasty evening for a rich cause, proving that sometimes too many cooks in the kitchen can be a good thing.
