Your Love Has a Cold, Thinks It’s the Plague
How do you handle the first cold when you’re newly dating someone? You know, the first time one of you gets sick, and the other is supposed to do the nursing-back-to-health routine.
With the increase in the amount of allergies and colds creeping up on people this season, I think it’s a valid question. And I like to be prepared. I find it a little tricky, mainly because guys turn into helpless 5-year-old babies when sick. Why is that?
Once the nursing got so bad I actually asked, “Do you want me to baby you? Because if you do, I don’t think I can do this anymore.” He responded with, “No.” But needless to say, he wanted more nurturing than I was prepared to give.
In fairness he did have malaria. But we were an ocean away, what could I really do? Nothing. (See my post on why long distance relationships suck.) I’d say I have about three days of full blown nursing-you-back-to-health in me. After that, I think you’re just milking it, which is taking advantage, which I don’t like. And, no one should do things they don’t like.
Maybe I feel this way because when I’m sick, I just want to be left alone. I just want to lie on the couch and catch up on reality TV. And I don’t want you to see me blowing snot bubbles and coughing up phlegm. Quite frankly, I don’t want to see you do it either. It’s just gross.
But, if you do feel inclined to take care of your lover when he or she is struck down with the plague, help me. What are the best remedies to nurse your love back to good health?
