Uber Says Lupo Verde Is Top D.C. Eatery

Uber, the rideshare company, has ranked D.C.’s top restaurants based on the dining destinations of its D.C. riders to figure out the dining habits of D.C.

According to a Uber blog, Lupo Verde is the most popular restaurant among Uber users in the area, followed by Mintwood Place and Le Diplomate. It’s not clear if that data comes from what people enter into the destination field when they order a car or if it also includes data taken from GPS mapping and perhaps surveys of drivers.

The top 20

Check out the top 20 restaurant destinations in the D.C. area according to Uber.

Uber didn’t just work out the popularity of individual restaurants. As you can see in the graphic below, Uber’s D.C. users apparently prefer American, Italian and French food in the Shaw, Farragut and Logan Circle areas.

American, Italian, French and Japanese were the favorite cuisines of Uber's riders. The top foodie neighborhoods were Shaw/Mount Vernon, Farragut/McPherson, Logan Circle, U Street and Chinatown/Penn Quarter. (Graphic: Uber)

That might say more about who is using Uber than the overall dining habits of the District though. It’s not likely that people would use Uber to go get fast food or go somewhere better known for its delivery service. It also doesn’t include restaurants outside the District and is solely based on Uber’s customers, not those who drive, use taxis or other carsharing companies or use public transportation.

Still, this data is interesting, and it is a clever way for Uber to try to stand out against its competitors like Lyft and Sidecar.
