Volunteer Opportunities in D.C.

As you close in on your Christmas gift shopping, you might start to think about not only giving to loved ones this year but others less fortunate. Tons of good food can be had around the holidays, and D.C. has lots of opportunities to share that food with the needy. Check out these services that are looking for donations and stuff a little philanthropy in your stocking this holiday season.

Bread for the City

Bread for the City provides 8,000 D.C. families with the ingredients to cook a holiday meal. $29 will provide for one meal.

Capital Area Food Bank

Participate in Capital Area Food Bank’s Stuff-A-Truck program this Friday to collect food and help collect food at participating Giant locations in D.C., Virginia and Maryland.

Food and Friends

Food and Friends needs volunteers to assist in delivering meals to individuals living with HIV and AIDS on Christmas and New Year’s Day as well as volunteers to help prepare the meals during three hour shifts from December 24-January 2.

Martha’s Table

Martha’s Table is seeking donations. Individuals may purchase a “Bundle of Joy,” a holiday package which goes to a child or family enrolled in their education program. The organization is also accepting winter clothes and food.
