What’s Next for Skydance Animation & John Lasseter Following First Full-Length Film
Skydance Animation and John Lasseter have collaborated on popular films recently. With the success of feature-length film
She also wants to keep her family safe from these forces and the ways they work against each other. Because she is dedicated to caring for her family and community, Elian is focused on ensuring the safety and security of the kingdom she rules over. Elian is voiced by Rachel Zegler, who was highly successful in the musical West Side Story. Her skills and success there make her a strong choice for Spellbound.
The movie is in the last stages of production and will wrap up soon and be ready for audiences. Vicky Jenson directed the film, with John Lasseter and others as co-producers. The creative input offered by Lasseter brings in an animation style that is very similar to what he offered during his time at Pixar, and it is a style that both children and adults can enjoy when they watch Skydance movies.
Other voice talents for Spellbound include Nicole Kidman, John Lithgow, Javier Bardem, Nathan Lane and Jenifer Lewis. With the number of high-level Hollywood names in the cast, there is much interest in this new film. Apple TV, where the movie will be offered, has been working hard to bring more kid-friendly offerings to its original lineup.
Originally, Spellbound was set to be released by Paramount, as was the previous Skydance film, Luck. But when a deal was made with Apple TV, all of Skydance’s movies were moved to that platform. The movies performed unexpectedly well, as Apple was unsure what kind of following Skydance would have and how well the animated movies would be received. The partnership looks to be a good one, with a high level of interest in what Lasseter and Skydance will do next.
The beginning of the Apple-Skydance partnership started with Blush, a short film about a horticulturist astronaut who ended up stranded on a small, desolate planet. Meeting an ethereal visitor helped him build a life on the planet and realize all the opportunities the universe offers. The next film to come from Skydance and Lasseter was Luck, a feature-length movie.
Luck followed the story of Sam, an orphan who aged out of the system and was left to fend for herself. She met a magical cat named Bob and followed him to the Land of Luck. Sam had to find a lucky penny to give to an orphan friend of hers to make sure the little girl had better luck, but through it all Sam also learned an important lesson about luck being what people make of it.\
Lasseter has been in the filmmaking business for a long time, working on big hits like Cars and Toy Story. After he left his role at Disney and Pixar, he was quickly hired on by Skydance Animation. Now he continues producing high-quality movies for kids to enjoy, and Spellbound looks like it is on track to see the same kind of success as Blush and Luck.
