Creating a Fabulous Bathroom

A beautiful bathroom may feel like an indulgence, but considering how much time we spend in there in our lifetime — about a year on average — we should embrace a decor we adore. Kickstart your bathroom redesign by experimenting with color and light to open up space, then focusing on optimal luxury and comfort. Here is how to get started creating a fabulous bathroom you actually want to spend time in:

Get creative with color

Your color scheme can completely transform the mood of the room. Cool colors like neutrals and whites evoke feelings of serenity, while bold colors make your bathroom feel sophisticated and modern. You can also use colored paint on old hardwood floors to give them a pop of color and brighten up a small space. Of course, paint isn’t the only way to create a color scheme in your bathroom. Luxurious towels, bath mats and shower curtains bring new life to your bathroom.

Glam up your lighting

The lighting you choose goes a long way to enhancing a bathroom. Start with vanity lighting above your mirror to add some style while illuminating your face for your morning routine. Recessed lighting works well above a shower or tub to softly brighten up the room while you refresh, and a chandelier in the center of your bathroom ceiling adds the ambient lighting you need to see while adding pizzazz to your bathroom decor.

Add embellishments

Embellishments are a fun way to add luxury and personality to your bathroom without a big budget. Switching to chrome accessories gives the illusion of high-end hardware in your bathroom while pretty antique perfume bottles catch light and add a pop of colorr. For bigger budgets, try antique bathroom fixtures or luxury shower heads that bring functionality and glamor to your new favorite room in the house.

Create the illusion of more space

Unless you score a huge master bathroom for your home, bathrooms are often short on space and feel cramped and uninspired. To instantly create the illusion of more space, add mirrors to open up the room and make it feel like you suddenly have new windows. Next, situate plants, bamboo and flowers alongside your mirrors to give the room more depth and a feeling that you have stepped into a garden oasis. For a finishing touch, including crystals above a window or mirror creates a reflection of color and light to create the sensation of more space.

Soak in the luxury

The biggest part of your bathroom will likely be the shower or bathtub area. Replace your traditional tub with an antique claw foot bathtub sourced from a salvage yard or second-hand houseware store to slash your budget. Swap out old fixtures as needed and add bath salts in glass bottles to create a spa setting. Finish off your look with a soft white bath mat, robe and towel set to wrap yourself in comfort as you step out of your next bath.

Your fabulous bathroom doesn’t need a huge budget or tons of time to create. It just needs a plan of action that blends functionality and style.
