Fun Facts About Side Sleeping & Dreaming

Studies show that we love sleeping on our sides. Is it the best position for sleeping? Well, it all depends on your specific tastes. I have found that some people sleep comfortably while on their back. However, I like side sleeping because I believe it helps me to rest and dream comfortably throughout the night.

Other than visiting https://www.trymattress.com/best-mattress-for-side-sleepers/ for the best reviews, I have also collected some captivating and even shocking facts on this sleeping posture and dreaming. Let’s take a look at eight of them.

You can read or tell time while dreaming

Sometimes, you might not know if you are dreaming or not. When this happens, try reading something. You will realize that it is hard for you to read or even tell the time if you’re dreaming.

Some of us are lucid dreamers

I discovered that there is a specific group of side-sleepers who practice what is referred to as conscious or lucid dreaming. Using different techniques, they believe that they have learned how to control all their dreams. So, they tend to think that they can do amazing things such as passing through walls and traveling through time.

Some great inventions have come from dreams

Did you know that great ideas and designs have come from dreaming? For instance:

  • The idea of Google by Larry Page
  • Alternating current generator by Tesla

Premonition dreams

I have also discovered that there are some unusual situations where people dream things that later happen. A good example is Abraham Lincoln who dreamt of his assassination. Did he have a glimpse into the future or was it just a coincidence?

Sleep paralysis

For most side sleepers, sleep paralysis is “Hell” or the stuff of nightmares. I went through this condition as a kid, and I can tell you that it is just horrible. First, you are unable to move, and it feels like evil has visited your room. Although most sleep experts advise us not to fight this feeling, it still causes, anxiety, fear and terror.

REM sleep disorder

In the REM stage of sleep, your body is completely paralyzed. Here, I have heard of people who act their dreams. However, the results are tragic with cases of broken limbs and a reported scenario where a house was burned down.

Why should you sleep on your left side?

Studies show that sleeping on your left instead of right is better for the growth of organs like the heart. This allows you to have enough rest through the night packed with different, captivating dreams.

Side sleeping helps to fight sleep apnea

Sleeping on the side is a perfect way of solving advanced sleep apnea. It lets you dream and snore your way through the night without any challenges. However, if you are a snoring back-sleeper who suffers from such a condition, you risk having severe breathing problems!

With the above facts, you can see that there is a close relationship in how we dream and our sleeping posture. Although there are no scientific studies that show that side sleepers enjoy more exciting dreams than others, I still feel it is the best resting position. Remember that dreams come easily when all muscles in the body are relaxed!
