Care for Your Skin with Independent Brands
Take Care, formerly Be Clean Shop, recently opened its new location in Georgetown at 1338 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
The store offers products from makeup to haircare to even clothing. All the products are natural and independent brands. Also, most of the brands are owned by women, and Take Care supports independently-run women businesses. Most of its products are vegan and primarily made in the USA.
Upon entering the shop, you feel a sense of calm and cleanliness that is a drastic change from the city streets that surround it. They recently moved from the 52 O St. NW Artist Stuidos to this location, which happens to be up the street from my apartment, so I walked over and was pleasantly surprised at how the store was able to transport me from D.C. city streets to a very zen place.
As I was browsing through the products, I was excited to come across brands I had never heard of before. Below are a couple of my favorite products that I found particularly unique and interesting:
Lavender Deodorant Cream by Meow Meow Tweet comes in a cute small container that can easily be thrown into your gym bag. It is a cream deodorant that you apply under your arms by scooping out some of the cream from the container and rubbing into your skin. I especially like it because even small deodorants are too big for the small hand purse I carry, but this small 1 ounce-container fitw into my bag easily, and I have it to readily apply for when I am out and about. It has a citrus meets baking soda scent, which masks odors, making it the cutest deodorant imaginable.
Another product that was given to me in a gift bag that I found to be calming to my very red skin is The Youth Dew by May Lindstrom Skin. It has a very earthy scent, which is probably an acquired taste, but it goes onto your skin smoothy hydrating your face and leaving a moisturizing shield that lasts throughout the entire day. It is on the expensive side, but I can see your dehydrated skin drastically improving skin if you use the serum daily.
Smoke Aritstan Salt Scrub is another product that I have luxuriously enjoyed since the media preview. It has a very clean, potent scent that lingers even after you have cleaned off all of the salt from your body. The salts gently exfoliate, while leaving your skin silky smooth at the same time.
All the products use unique ingredients and are definitely worth checking out. It also feels good to know you are supporting independently-owned businesses in the D.C. Take Care even sells products for men, so while you are shopping for yourself, you can also get something for your guy.
Take Care plans to offer yoga and meditation events. It is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and will hold its grand opening this coming Thursday from 6-9 p.m.
