Expanding Your Tastes in 2014
A new year is here! After rousing yourself from a bed of confetti and champagne bottles, its time to take stock of your life and develop some new schemes and goals for better living in 2014.
The trouble with making New Year’s resolutions is keeping them. Staying in shape takes persistence, becoming better organized is a job and a half, and saving money is just about impossible. But how about this one folks: eat out more? Think about it. Eating out introduces you to new dishes, neighborhoods and people. Its a positive resolution that you can actually look forward to keeping. Make 2014 the year of the restaurant and get out there!
Check out some of my favorite places for the past year and make them yours:
RANGE: Bryan Voltaggio’s Friendship Heights restaurant has 14,000 square feet of dining space and an expansive menu to fill the venue. With eight kitchens, diners can order raw bar delicacies, rare cheeses, brick oven pizza and even shop at their in-restaurant cooking store. Go in to RANGE with a big appetite and leave with a new favorite restaurant. Check out the full DC on Heels write up here.
Thai X-ing: Housed in a blink-and-you-miss it row house off Florida Avenue, Thai X-ing is a reservation only, limited seating establishment that is well worth the exclusivity. Diners will experience a home style meal that literally feels like it is in someone’s living room and the multi-course, set menu tastes so authentic and good it has to be someone’s grandmother’s recipes. Bring your own booze and enjoy a filling evening of Thai classics and exotics. Check out the full DC on Heels write up here.
New Heights Restaurant and Gin Joint: A Woodley Park mainstay for over 20 years, New Heights has well-proven its knack for inventive, rich flavors (venison with cocoa, pan seared scallops encrusted with brown butter) and has firmly positioned itself at the vanguard of the D.C. craft distillery scene with its downstairs bar, the Gin Joint, which features over 60 brands of gin. Go in for a martini with friends then meet a date upstairs for a candlelit meal you won’t regret. Check out the full DC on Heels write up here.
Add these suggestions to your 2014 list and experience our nation’s capital through food!
