Why, hello, DC on Heels readers! We’re Krista, Kristen, and Stacey of the DC music blog This Is Our Jam, and we are so excited to be bringing you the latest music and entertainment news in the coming weeks.
As a way to introduce ourselves, we’ve put together a playlist of each of our top three favorite songs ever (believe us dudes, this was no easy task). Check out our choices below and listen to the entire playlist on Grooveshark .
And if you want to know what our more recent favorite jams are, check out our Best of May playlist as well!
“Skinny Love” – Bon Iver
I cannot appropriately put into words how much I love Bon Iver . Whenever I’m stressed or tired or sad (or happy), I put on his beautiful albums and everything is okay.
(p.s. Even the remixes of this song are awesome)
“September” – Earth Wind & Fire
I may be partial to this song because it sings about the day after my birthday, but regardless, it is impossible for me to not be happy when this song comes on. As such, I love throwing it in random playlists as a fun surprise. Highly recommend you do the same.
“Concrete Bed” – Nada Surf
I can barely listen to this album anymore since it played on repeat throughout pretty much my entire junior year of high school. However, this song is so wonderful and has one of my all-time favorite lyrics ever: “To find someone you love, you gotta be someone you love” — remember that, people.
“Just Say Yes” by Snow Patrol
This song encompasses everything. I want for life: to be happy, loved, optimistic, and willing to take a chance on life.
“And If My Heart Should Somehow Stop” by James Vincent McMorrow
Admittedly, I would listen to JVM sing the phone book with is perfect, raspy, Irish voice. I find this song so bittersweet, enchanting, and all-consuming that I don’t know if I could ever give it up.
“This Modern Love” by Bloc Party
It’s hard to explain the hold this song has over me, but its upbeat, earnest vibe has had me under its spell for years (and probably will for many, many more!)
“Thunder Road” – Bruce Springsteen
My all-time favorite favorite favorite ever — my dad listens to Bruce all the time, and I was brainwashed at a very young age
“Careful” – Guster
This was my ringtone for a solid two years, and that album stayed in the CD player in my car that entire time. Needless to say, it was always confusing when my phone rang.
“Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” – John Mayer
I had Continuum more or less on repeat throughout the entirety of my college life. I could listen to this song on repeat for the rest of my real-person life.
